Synopsis

Azerbaijan. Yagub lives with his adult son Musa in a small house in a desolate place. They lead a solitary life. Musa, mentally disabled and limited in his motor skills, assists his father with his work. Yagub is a carpenter and earns his money especially with coffins, which he carpenters for Georgians and Russians. Whenever being confronted with the clumsiness of his son he often reacts indignantly – with beating. When Musa is diagnosed with a deadly illness, the emotional numbing of the father slowly dissolves as he tries to make the last days of his son as enjoyable as possible – until Sabir delivers a surprising message.

Synopsis

"Long echo" portrays a post-Soviet town at the Ukrainian separatist border and some of its people during the war. Its protagonists are imaginative and gripping despite many hardships: so they lead a single club, build a zoo with chameleons, play in a heavy metal band and drive taxi. The film shows a region that concerns us not only in Europe for years. It shows people on the periphery of the war and how it changed their daily lives. It also shows how people respond on their new and old needs. Their survival is sometimes not without quirky moments that give the film in many moments an unexpected lightness. The two directors Veronika Glasunowa and Lukasz Lakomy have begun long before the war started with the preparations for the film. This enabled them to build a relationship of trust that even in wartime had stock and has helped to get extraordinary insights.
